Welcome to Brasstutor!

Hi, I'm Nikki Jones. I started my brass playing on the cornet at the age of 8 in the Kettering Salvation Army. I was then taught by John Berryman (retired M.D. of VirtuosiGUS) and made the front row in Northamptonshire County Youth Brass Band. During this time I had the experience of competing at the Royal Albert Hall and played in the 1986 School's Proms.

I then concentrated on my education (Degree in Biochemistry and Masters in Molecular Biology, if you're interested!) and embarked on a career in the sciences. I continued to play on and off for numerous brass bands, sometimes as principal cornet.

After starting a family, I turned to tutoring as a way of keeping sane and have taught cornet, tenor horn, trombone, trumpet, clarinet, alto saxophone and flute.

At the beginning of 2008 I started the Witney Town Junior Band and enjoyed the role of their Musical Director for six years. I currently conduct the Wantage Academy band which competes in the 4th Section.

Aswell as teaching and conducting I play 1st Horn for Wantage Band, in the Championship Section, and am currently Chair of the Oxfordshire and District Brass Band Association.

I am based in Oxfordshire and charge £14 per 1/2hr (pro rata)

I am DBS certified
